About this time of year the ground is thawing and the snow is melting. During these times Mother Nature plays a big role which can affect your home, driveway, patio along with other things. During the day the ground thaws, but when night arrives it gets cold enough to freeze again. When this happens things start moving due to the expansion of water creating ice. If your property is not graded appropriately and water is sitting along your foundation, this freezing can cause cracks and other issues with your basement walls. You always want to provide positive drainage away from your foundation allowing the water to drain properly. Sometimes there are cases where there is nowhere for the water to go. That’s when we have to get creative using specialized drainage systems to either hold the water or disperse it in other ways. It is always recommended to trench in your downspouts to ditch lines or other areas of your property that are further away from your house.
Please contact us if you think you may have a water problem, because it could just be a quick and simple regrade that will not only save your basement walls but will save you money by not allowing your sump pump to run as often.
